Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.
Social Security Pet Foster
At a time when they should be getting the very best care and having a calm and stable life, senior pets who are thrown into the shelter system are stressed beyond belief.
When we make a decision to help a senior pet, we need a few things in place.
First, we need a hospice foster who will let them live out their lives in peace. A hospice foster needs an extra big heart full of love for senior pets.
Second, everyone involved in this program must be on the same page. Our goal is to keep these pets, who would otherwise be at the highest risk of euthanasia in the shelter, comfortable for as long as they have quality of life.
In the Social Security Pet Program, the foster family pays for food, toys, grooming, boarding and normal expenses, but we pay for the veterinary care (with our veterinarian) needed to take care of the pet until it is time to say goodbye.
