FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Because our guiding principal in adoptions is to place our pets as if they are our own- suddenly left alone in the world, we want to do an in-person home visit so we know where they will be living. Volunteers conduct the home visits and are taking time away from their families and pets in order to help us. Because of this, we limit their drive time to 25 miles from our home base in Friendsville, Tennessee.
Because our pets are provided donated space and care at a private boarding facility, we require everyone to submit an application first to make sure you are a match for the particular pet you want to meet. Once the adoption team has reviewed your application, you will be contacted if you are a match. Because we receive so many applications, we are not able to respond to all inquiries.
Yes. If your application is a match, we will contact you to schedule a time for you to meet the pet you are interested in.
Yes. If your application is a match, your entire family (including another pet) will be invited to the Center to meet the dog you are interested in. We will conduct a dog-to-dog evaluation at the Center (and again in the home during the home visit). You must provide a current vaccination certificate showing your pet is current with Bordetella, Distemper/Parvo and Rabies.
While we do not impose restrictions on adopting to families who are not homeowners, we do require your landlord’s consent, in writing, to adopting one of our pets.
Generally our preference is for you to give all of your attention to your new pet, but occasionally we do allow two pets to be placed into the same home – especially if they are bonded pairs that have been together for a long time. (*Board of Directors approval is required prior to placing more than two of our pets into the same home.)
